CollegeAmerica Student Organizes Teddy Bear Drive for Children Affected by Hurricane Sandy

Teddy Bears to Be Sent to Union Beach, New Jersey

Cheyenne, Wyo (December 06, 2012) — The Cheyenne campus of CollegeAmerica, a leading provider of on-campus and online higher education, is holding a Hurricane Sandy Relief Teddy Bear Drive Thursday, Dec. 6 through Thursday, Dec. 13. Donations can be dropped off at CollegeAmerica, located at 6101 Yellowstone Road, Suite 101 in Cheyenne.

Campus officials hope to collect as many teddy bears as they can from staff, faculty, students and community members to send to children affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The event has been organized by Clifford Brown, a 60-year-old Cheyenne resident and current student at CollegeAmerica majoring in graphic arts. Brown, a native of, New Jersey, was moved by the devastating circumstances facing those residing there. He wanted to find a way to provide hope to the children impacted by the storm. Through family in New Jersey, Brown contacted officials in Union Beach to organize delivery of the teddy bears. The city has about 800 students in grades K-12. Brown’s goal is to provide a teddy bear to each child of Union Beach.

“We’re committed to supporting our students and when heard about Clifford’s idea to hold a teddy bear drive for the children affected by Hurricane Sandy we were anxious to help,” said James Birman, associate director of the Cheyenne campus. “At CollegeAmerica we aren’t just training individuals for jobs, but members of communities.”

CollegeAmerica has partnered with the local UPS Store, which has donated all the boxes for shipping, and Men’s Warehouse, which is covering most of the shipping costs. The teddy bears will be sent to city officials in Union Beach, New Jersey. City representatives will distribute them to the families affected by the storm.
