Phoenix Residents Earn GED Credential through College's Good Neighbor Initiative

Phoenix Campus of CollegeAmerica Has Helped More Than 100 Individuals Earn Their GED Credential

Phoenix (April 23, 2013) — The Phoenix campus of CollegeAmerica celebrated the achievements of over 20 Phoenix residents last week at the CollegeAmerica campus. The residents earned their GED credential after utilizing the college's free GED preparation class offered through the college's Good Neighbor Initiative, which also covers the cost of testing fees for the students.

"CollegeAmerica's Good Neighbor Initiative is designed to remove some of the barriers our community members face,' said David Wehr, director of admissions at the Phoenix campus. "These remarkable individuals deserve a great deal of credit for their hard work, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements."

The classes are held through CollegeAmerica's Good Neighbor Initiative, a program that offers classes, training and other career skills workshops at no cost to community members. In the past year, more than 100 GED students have earned their GED credential through the program.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, individuals who have a GED or high school diploma earn nearly $9,000 more per year, and are less likely to be unemployed than those without a high school diploma. More than 14 percent of Phoenix residents aged 25 or higher have not earned a high school diploma.
